thanks big G - "Bach" sounds better - thought it was that.

Had found the 1841 Jane Evans as you say living at Twlly claioch (any ideas what that means, please)

Also found her living at the above mentioned place in the 1861/1871 Censuses, that is why I was wondering about the street address in the 1841 Census..

I doubt it!  Not because I dont want to but because my Welsh understanding extends to a very limited bit.....very. 

I was also called "bach" which means little/small - i suppose the English would be cosy or dear to the heart - it can mean a load of things.  The barn thats close could mean close to the house or close to the family in other words what was "dear" to the family what was close - if a paddock is close to the house so it could have been the horse barn - who knows! 

Twlly claioch seems to be an English translation of local Welsh at the time - so the mutations and with mis translation it could take a while to decipher

ysgubor (n.)   barn, granary, garner   - notice the spelling to the saying - what the Enumertor was told he wrote down as best he could - but this is the actual spelling.

See just bad writing - the entry for the 41 does say this - just not very well you have to think outside the box a bit but then it does say this!

My goodness, you have been busy for me.    Thanks for all that info.  Your Welsh translation is a darn right better that mine would ever be   

Yes, you also have the right family and yes again, Lydia seems to be my David Evans sister.

The name Twlly claioch I had also read as Twll y Clawdd to that has sorted that one out for me.

As for the people from Crowrach, that looks like super.  My David did marry a Jane Thomas - I have just ordered a marriage cert. for them (I hope) being married in the Bangor district.  Fingers crossed that I have the right marriage.

Their daughter - my g-grandmother was apparently born at Crowrach so that would fit the bill perfectly.
