It disturbs me the way "text" speak is creeping in - particularly on these boards.

There are an increasing number of posts written as though the person is texting somebody.

They have no punctuation so we don't know where one sentence starts and another ends. No capital letters for names/surnames or to start a sentence.

I wonder if they would write a letter to a prospective employer or anybody else in such a manner?

Or am I expecting too much in this day and age?

I think Gadget has said it all.  If people want lookups, it's only polite for them to write in clear English and not to use "text" speak.

I often have to ask my son what various abbreviations mean.
They usually turn out to be rude  :o

I really hate it when people write the word wiv....and then say it like that too.

It's wiTH people  ;D

It's no wonder that the children of today struggle with English and are unable to write a decent letter.  They spend so much time on their mobiles using abbreviated "text" speak that they forget what normal language looks and sounds like
