Berkett.
« on: Friday 16 April 04 03:30 BST (UK) »
I am looking for OSWALD BERKETT  .
I have no idea of his birth date but I have a picture taken about 1910/11 and he is in the army; a Cavalry Regiment by the look of the frogging and the swagger stick he carries.
All I know is that he was "from down south" (and as I lived in Durham thats about the rest of the country).

Ossie was bought out of the army after a discression and sent to Canada.
One story has him dying quite soon after; another that he became a lawyer and propered.
However any help would be very welcome.

Here's a possibility for you Melody. I stuffed his name into the 1901 census search. He doesn't appear to have family with him. If you think that the man in your photo could be 25(-ish); Then I'd ask for an 1891 lookup on the census lookup requests.

Oswald Berkett  15 Cambridge Middlesex Yiewsley School

Hi! Melody,
Well I have been called some things, but never Wonderwoman, hubby wonders why I keep spinning around this morning.

From the 1891 census
William H. Birkett   Age 37   B. Bolton le Sands
Mary H. Birkett      Age 42   B. Sheffield
Edith Birkett          Age 9     B. Colchester
Oswald Birkett      Age 5     B. Chesterton

William is a Tutor and they are living at Paderoft (sp?) School

The census was difficult for the person to read, note the different spelling of the name.
Bolton le Sands is the Morecambe area.

Catherine    :)

Tell hubby I know better;
I have been looking for Ossie for a while but not knowing where to look has been a bit of a problem.
I have no way of checking any of the info but I am happy to have some time frame for him.
I can now go and advertise in the local papers in the area in the hope of finding some family.

                  Many thanks.   Melody
