1834 birth look up - Llanidloes - puzzle!
« on: Monday 10 November 08 20:07 GMT (UK) »
I know this is a long shot, but is there anyone who could look up a couple of births (or baptisms) for me?

Eliza Rees (or Woodburn) born about 1829, Llanidloes
Mary Ann Rees ( or Woodburn) born 1834 Llanidloes.

I think that both girls' mother was Sarah Rees?

The surname confusion is because both girls appeared in censuses as Rees until they married, but got married with the surname Woodburn. Confusing. Their "sister" Sarah changed from Rees to Gittins but she was born later so I could get her certificate.
Thanks,
Liz

Yes, that's the family. I have no idea who Thomas is - Sarah's brother maybe?

The younger Sarah is my great great grandmother - her birth was registered as Sarah Ann Gittins Rees with no father named. When she married, her name was Sarah Ann Gittins (no Rees) with father JohnGittins.

Any more ideas?

Hi Liz.
I've had similar in my tree.
The only thing I could think of that the father is Gittins and the mother Rees and just to make the point she has it as a middle name.
Maybe sarah took the name Gittins for her marriage so she had a name for her father on her certificate or Gittins accepted her as his daughter

They are a funny lot!
On all the censuses Sarah senior was down as unmarried. I haven't been able to trace a John Gittins.

The other 2 sisters used the name Woodburn when they married - and father as John Woodburn who I have also been unable to trace!

Sarah senior, John Gittins and John Woodburn all had the occupation "confectioner"
