Help!!
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 15:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
I'm looking for information on the parents of Violet May Houghton.Violet was born 1928 possibly in or around  the village of earlswood(i've no idea what county earlswood is in. it's in the green belt south of birmingham). I'm not sure if she took the fathers or mothers surname as i dont think they were married. Her mother was Anne Field(i think). This is very sketchy info so i do apologise but i have no living relatives to confirm any of this. Any help, suggestions or advice will be appreciated. Thanks
researching the villages of blockley and tanworth in arden

Hi
If you go to www.freebmd.org.uk you can search for births in 1928 by looking at the original pages.  It is a bit long winded to get there but should work.  Cheaper than looking at the paying sites.  If they were not married she is more likely to be under Field.   If you are not sure of the mother's name then life is difficult!   If Earlswood is in Warwickshire then the reference will start with 6d.   You can then order the certificate from the GRO.   Do you have Violet's marriage certificate?

Mother's name is Field too!   I searched the Field births - should have had more faith that they were married!   Now you need to look for the marriage.

There is this marriage, which looks promising:

June 1923, Kings N. 6d/88
Alfred Houghton
Annie E Field
