William Straw married to Hannah Meakin is my 3x great grandfather, I did not know that some of the family had emigrated to Australia/New Zealand, this is news to me. I have found 7 children related to William and Hannah, Esther Straw b 1774 d1835 married John Gregory b1772 d1856/ John Straw b1775 d1818 married Mary Scattergood b1780 d????/ Hannah Straw b1778 d1779/ William Straw b1780 d1844 married Elizabeth Bramley b1782 d1849/ Wheatley Straw b1782 d1864 married Eleanor Houghton b1782 d1847/ Thomas Straw b1787 d1859 married Naomi Barker b1787 d1841/ Charles Straw b1791 d1800. All events took place in the Ilkeston Derbyshire area as far as I can find.

There are some Samuel Straws in the family but need time to trace them.

If any of this means anything to anyone please get in touch.

Regards

Margaret

Interesting - I am also descended from William Straw and Hannah Meakin - Their son Thomas Straw had a daughter Eliza who, in turn, had a son out of wedlock, Charles Straw, who moved with his family to the Wakefield area (he was a miner) and had a large family - thus setting up the West Riding Straw family branch
