I've just seen all those posts whilst I was sorting my list!  Thank you so much.
Just to make sure it's clear

Mary Jones/Burden/Barrow (and I believe there was a Cowdery but I haven't got there yet!) is the Great Grandmother of my friend.
Frederic was her Grandfather and there was very little known about him.  Hence this hunt.

Hope I have a clear head tomorrow when I try to put all this in order,
Thank you very much,
Cheers,
Abiam

Jill perhaps you may find it interesting to have a browse on
http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home
and search using the name Phillip BURDEN in the South Australian Advertiser.

Names that are mentioned   J H BARROW, P H BURDEN, Mrs Burden.

Cheers

Thank you Cando and Jenn for all your help.  I have got on quite well with the English side - census and BMD's  but would never have got so far without your Australian help.

I now have this friend's 3X Great Grand parents on both sides but obviously very sketchy on the early ones, more work to be done.  I was going to ask you about the marriage of Ada D M Burden so thanks Cando you've got it and some more reading for me to do.

I still have a big problem!  I wanted to find out when the family first emigrated but have gone cross eyed looking.  But I was looking for Jones when I should have looked for Burden.  The main problem is did they pay to go or were they assisted. And it seems now that they went to Vic rather than Adelaide.

So now I am looking for Phillip Henry Burden, B. 1824 Ledbury Herefordshire, wife Mary(Jones), born 1827 Hatfield, Worcestershire, and at least 2 children the last born Sept. 1852 in London ,Phillip was a grocer.  The next child is born Sep. 1854 in Burnside, Caulfield, Victoria, SA.  So there is a window :-[ (hate that expression) between Sep 1852 and Sep 1854.  I am continuing to look but if either of you have any bright ideas............ (have to take my long suffering partner out to lunch today!)

Thank you both once again,
Abiam

Now Abiam

you  are a little confused or  your friend has confused things  :D

the couple could not have a child in Victoria in Sept of 1854  when they  have one  in Sept 1854 In South Australia

Quote
Annie born 20/9/1854 at Kensington  Book5 page 49

plus no record of a child born in Caufield Victoria.

I  must have a wild stab  here and say  Why  could they not have gone straight  to South Australia?
