Thanks again all.  I hadn't even noticed the Suffolk Regiment bit  ::)

Here's the photo I mentioned.
My grandfather is on the front row, 2nd from right.

The photographers stamp on the cardboard backing is "Scott & Wilkinson, Cambridge".  There are no other marks/handwriting on the photo, front or back.

Here's a closer snapshot of the chap in uniform.  Not sure if it gives any more clues ?

I reckon that this is post war...But a higher resolution scan would be most welcome!

The chaps in civvies appear to have lapel badges on (most of them!) and there may be a smattering of SWBs.

The officer is either an RSM (WO1) or has overseas service stripes on. I cannot make out his cap badge at the moment though!

Your second close up appears not to have him on though?
One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Ooh I stated an untruth!  He's there now...Around 1920ish...No collar pin for the officer and he has a "Wind Up" jacket on (rank on epaulettes). Overseas service chevrons so 1918 + at least. ummm...Overseas service stripes...But NO medal ribbons...

There appears to a poppy on on of the chaps...

Can't make out his cap badge at the mo though...Could be a Fusilier type, but the collar dogs are interesting!

Love the boots!...I have an identical pair! ;D

The womens clothes say post war to me as well...the civvy clothing spans a number of years

Pse pse...! High res scan (300dpi) this would halp, and perhaps ID some of the lapel badges... ;) ;D

O.K now I feel really dense...

What are  SWB, RSM (WO1), 'Wind Up' jacket, collar dogs ?

I had to compress the picture I thought, to get within the 500KB allowance.  Will have another go with an original size.

Grandad was born in 1998, so if the photo was taken around 1918 it would make him 20.
I know he married in 1924 and doesn't seem to wearing a wedding band.

Odd looking bunch though really.  Such a mix of hairstyles, from comb overs to mohicans  ;)

First glance at cap badge looks like Flaming Granade...One of the Fusilier Regiments?

SWB -Silver War Badge awarded to ranks discharged through sickness or wounds to stop them getting hard time off people at home thinking them "cowards" for not been in uniform in wartime.

WO1 RSM warrant officer class 1 Most senior Non Commissioned Officer in a Regiment.
