Hello again,

if you are still local, it's somewhere around where all the new flats have been built at the roundabout near the MEN arena and the bottom of Cheetham Hill Road.

good luck  :)

Hello Brillo, yes as the previous Rootschatter has said Red Bank was on the west edge of the  area known as Angel Meadow and ran parallel to Danzig St.
The railway ran between also the River Irk. There was a St. George`s church  fairly close by, to be exact St, George`s in The Fields. It was first on Rochdale Road which was known  in the 1800`s as as St. George`s Road. The road was altered probably to accommodate railway arches and St. George`s was demolished and rebuilt on Oldham Road.St. George`s road was renamed as Rochdale Road.

Red Bank is still there, somewhat altered as development has taken place.

Hi Brillo

No shortage of Dye Works in that area. The River Irk was  favourite with their ilk-the full length. There were quite a few on the other side from Red Bank, on Collyhurst Rd.

Even in the 1950's this river ran in many colours I saw this from working in a machine shop high up on its banks on Collyhurst road. As a matter of fact we saw a couple of Swans on this river that looked like they had army camouflage painted on them. This was from the water pumped out by the  ICI dyeworks in Crumpsall (Blackley)

Thanks for lots of information. I am no longer local but have some good maps and have found Red Bank. Ancestor lived there and was Dyer and Stiffener. Confusion because on all maps St George's ED is part of Hulme.
