daisynook-- Baxter St. Hulme, was at right angles to St.George`s St. and River St. between Leaf St. and Edge St.  I can`t find an Upper Baxter St.On an older map there is a BaxterSt. between East St. and Leaf St.   presumably the name Edge  changed. It was at right angles to George St. and Worcester St.Quite close to City Road and Whitworth St.West. Hope this helps Viktoria.

Rob Roy Court was part of the Cavalry Barracks close to the hospital on its east side. It ran into the west side of Lord street. Later maps dont give its name but the location is still there. I have saved you this section of the map showing the court name, is there a way you can e-mail me?

This is my first time on here so a bit in awe.
I am trying to find Red Bank in Hulme. I have the Alan Godfrey map for St George's  and it isn't on so I am at a loss.  Would like to find it as all family were dyers/stiffeners and may help with where there they worked.

Welcome to you, brillo  :)

Red Bank, as far as I know, was around the bottom of Cheetham Hill Road/Corporation Street - not far from Victoria Station.

It can be seen on modern Google maps.
Any queries - just post and someone will be there to help (if possible)
kind regards
heywood  :)

Red Bank is not in Hulme. Its to the north east of Victoria railway station and the Manchester cathedral.

The map section I have is to large a file even though its a JPEG. Try contacting me at

Where did you see Red Bank Hulme?

About 15 minutes walk to the north east of Red Bank there is or was a St Georges church in the Collyhurst area. East of this church is the suburb of Ancoats with lots of industry and dye works.
