Lyncombe & Wdcombe old Photos

Hello to all

 g granddad was born at 7 Claverton Buildings, 'back of the slip' (does anyone know what 'the slip' was or where?) in 1860.

Would anyone have any old photos/images of his home, please? Don't know whether this was a working class area?

would any one have any old images/photos/postcards of Lyncombe & Widcombe

would love to see the area, which i assume would have been country side then, period 1840-1870.

Well not exactly a photo but a drawing of #7 Claverton Buildings.

Yes definately a working class area in 1860 and very close to the Kennet and Avon Canal, so assume the 'slip' would've been for canal traffic.

It was further to the River Avon but the two were connected.
All the adjacent areas of Dolmeads, the lower part of Holloway, Widcombe and Broad Quay on the opposite bank were low lying and prone to flooding.
Places like Claverton Buildings, Kirkhams Buildings and Hatfields Buildings were the 'projects' of their era.

This is a .gif image of Bath around 1870.
Lyncombe/Widcombe is at the bottom.
You should be able to save to your computer and open in a photo programme
Zoom in to view the streets.
