FLORIDA in Radnage
« on: Saturday 05 February 05 15:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone else have connections with Peter George FLORIDA who was christened in Radnage church on 22 Oct 1769 and described as 'a negro child about eight years of age'. At his marriage to Phillis Stone also in Radnage on 23rd September 1781 he is described as  "a negro man of this parish".

Family legend suggests that he or his parents were slaves brought over or escaped from Florida. I have so far been unable to verify this or trace Peter George's parents. Do any other listers/chatters have the same FLORIDAs in their tree if so please get in touch,

Thanks

Ivor

I'm descended from Peter George Florida and Phillis Stone, though I found it out through genealogical research and not family knowledge (I knew my grandfather's grandmother's maiden name was Floriday, but that was all).

I'm descended from his daughter Ann Maria through her first child Charles Floriday who was illegitimate.

I bought a dna test for my granddad on that side and he matches a woman descended from Peter George and Phillis's son George.

Someone on ancestry, another descendant, has deduced that Peter George was directly african and not from Florida as his surname would suggest. I'm not sure how to link an ancestry text file here or I would.

I would also like to know anything anyone has found out about him, or just to hear from other people descended from him.
