My husband's father:  Duncan Fraser McLEOD (from Inverness) served in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), Labour Corps, as a Private Reg.2236, No. 2 Platoon, 4 Labour Company, British Expeditionary Forces. I know he was in active service in France but would like to know more about the areas and times, etc. Any information would be of intererst. Ruth MacLeod

He was first in the 14th. Btn. S. Rifles & in 1917 on the formation of the
Labour Corps his along with all other Labour Btns. were transferred to the LC.
The S. Rifles were designated no's 3 & 4 Coys.
His LC no. 2236 indicates he was in no. 4 Coy.

The LLT says this about them:
14th (Labour) Battalion
Formed in June 1916 and moved to France next month. Onto work on Lines of Communication.
April 1917 : became Nos 3 and 4 Companies of the Labour Corps.

I am trying to locate areas of service campaigns for my father-in-law Private Duncan Fraser McLEOD, from Inverness, Labour Corps, British Expeditionary Forces. I know he was in France.
Born 22 Nov., 1885, died 20 August, 1961, Inverness. I have a photo but don't know how to attach to post.

Their war diary can be downloaded from TNA free of charge.
It won't tell you much & it only goes up to April 1917 when they became 3 & 4 Coys. LC.
However they were based at Saint Saens France from the time they arrived & stayed at
least until they transferred.
They covered a large area from Bernay in the South to Rouen & Crecy Forest in the North.
My guess is that after they transferred they stayed in the same Group.
With regard to campaigns he wouldn't have been directly involved.
The 14th. were involved with lines of communication.
Repairing roads, laying track, working under the RE laying cables etc.
