« on: Tuesday 02 December 08 12:28 GMT (UK) »
Seeking any additional information attaching the marriage record of Mary Ann SANDERS/SAUNDERS on 21st Nov 1835 at Letchworth to George GRAVESn(IGI only, no church given), especially if father is Joseph & also in the gun trade. Also Witnesses if SANDERS, please. Maybe my stray from Loughborough, LEI.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

This marriage is confirmed on the BVRI but again no church is mentioned, just the parish - Letchworth, however in 1835 the only Anglican Church in the town was St Marys.

Before 1837 the only additional information that you will glean from the original document will be;

Marital status of the couple - whether single or widowed.
Whether the couple were of the parish
Whether they were married by Banns or Licence
The names of two witnesses.

Someone who is going to HALS may be able to check this for you.

Rick :)

Thanks Rick. I appreciate the limitations, however I have been fortunate in the past to find that some incumbents have added small bits of additional information "beyond what was required" which without would have not provided necessary proof. Fingers crossed.

regards,
Mark

Herts Marriage Index says:

George Graves married Mary Saunders of Stotfold
at Letchworth 21 Nov 1835

There are three other Saunders marriages listed where it says "Saunders of Stotfold"

ie
William Saunders of Stotfold married Judith Scales of Norton
at Norton on 8 Nov 1821

Ed Saunders of Stotfold married Ann Clare
at Bygrave on 2 Jun 1821
 Possible 2nd marr:
Ed Saunders of Stotfold married Lydia Dellar
at Radwell on 28 Apr 1827

Lady Di - Very helpful thanks. Very strongly suggestive of a local family and therefore not a stray of mine.

Appreciated.

Hi Mark,

The entry in the Letchworth Parish Register records George GRAVES otp and Mary SAUNDERS of the parish of Stotfold, Beds were married by Banns on 21st November 1835.  Witnesses James GRAVES and Mary STRATTON.  All four put their mark (X).   Not a helpful cleric this time.

Thanks, Peter.
Another dead end unfortunately. Seems to have developed very much along the same lines as my other running post trying to verify another part of the same family story in Loughborough. In that case, a lot more detailed information of spouses and children, but none of it verifiable by BMD. Who are these people?

Regards,
Mark
