pre 1855 death records, Leslie Fife.
« on: Wednesday 03 December 08 13:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi to everyone!!,
I'm new to this forum and i'm not sure if i'm placeing this message in the correct place, anyway, if some kind sole out there can help me
i will be very very grateful.

Iv'e been doing my tree for eight years now and to get back any further i need
to find out when my GGGgrandparents died,
all i know of them is they had both their children baptised at Leslie parish,
one in 1826 and the other in 1828, both of my GGGgrandparents were from
North Leith but i have traced both the children and know all about them, it's
the deaths i can't find for both my GGGgrandparents.
Their names are-- George Sinclair b circa 1805 north leith
Mary Temple b 1807 north leith.
On their marriage cert it says George sinclair was a spirit dealer in Leith but,
on their childens births in Leslie it says he is a Grocer in Leslie.
Because there are no census records for 1841 for Leslie, i can't find them, i
tried after the 1851 but they are no longer around so i have to assume that they both died in Leslie.

If anyone out there can help me with this, or even adive me on how to take this further, this would be one huge favour.
thanks for your time all!!        Rab.

Rab, welcome to RC!!
Yes you've posted in the right place.

i have checked the fife burial index but can't find george or mary. this is pre 1855.
what were the childrens names - i know you have everything about them but it may help in the search for their parents.

Have found them on the 1841 census in Abbotshall:

George Sinclair     35      grocer shop    b. in county
Mary        "            35                                     "
Alex                        6                                      "
Mary                       5                                      "
Agnes                     2?                                    "

1841 ages were often rounded.

Out of interest the IGI has a birth for:

George Sinclair  1/1/1800  Leslie ,fife
father: Alex Sinclair
Mother: Agnes Davidson

interesting because of childrens/parents names. how do you know george was born in Leith?

wondering if we have 2 families here because have found this family on the 1851 living inWemyss:

George Sinclair             49   grocer    b. Leslie
Mary heron    (wife)     47                      "
Alex Sinclair                  16                 b, leslie
Mary                              15                       "
agnes                            13                 kirkcaldy
John                                6                  wemyss

may explain why your marriage cert/birth certs do not tie in.  think you found these children but if you are sure your George was born in N.Leith then this is not his family.

mau need to look again for children of george Sinclair & mary temple.

sorry,  Diddy  ???

Hi Diddy, thankyou so much for your reply, i really appreciate your help with this,
George sinclair and mary temple, i have their marriage in st cuthberts Edinburgh 1826 it says they are both from the same parish, North Leith,
their first born is Alxander Sinclair b 1826 Leslie Fife,
next born is Charles Sinclair born 1828 Leslie Fife, i have both OPR's for their
births and they both say that the father (George Sinclair) is a merchant/grocer in Leslie.
I can understand me  not getting a death for one of them, but both mary an
George to not have a death record seems odd!!!
Thanks Diddy, i spend every waking minute thinking about this!!
                 kind regards Rab.

Re George and Mary (Temple) SINCLAIR

They are not listed as deceased at the marriage of their son Charles to Margaret Simpson in Dysart on 30 Nov. 1857 of which I have the GRO image.

Hi Jacci,
i'm so very grateful to you for the info you have given, what a great forum this is!!, people really do try and help you don't they!.
Getting back to your question, yes, that would be Mary Temple's Grandchild
that died in 1854, her father (Alexander sinclair, pottery worker) was my
GGgrandad, well done Jacci!!.
The Additional info on the death cert saying Mary temple Grandmother, does this mean Mary Temple is still alive???, iv'e searched scotland's people
hopeing i would find her living with family on the census, alass nothing.
This has been a huge challenge for me for the last 8 years, i wonder if i'll ever know what happened to George or Mary.

Also the marriage of Charles sinclair (mary's son) i agree, it dosn't say that charles's parents are deceased, i looked at Alexander's marriage cert (my GGgrandad) but it's an OPR, gives no info whatsoever regarding his parents.
I have all the family of my GGgrandad (alexander) and i find it strange that not
one of his children where called George (after his father)!
i'm beggining to wonder if there might have been some sort of fued in the family?.
I'm going to Fife next week for a couple of nights, if i knew where i could research this it would be great, perhaps i'll get lucky, who knows!.

Jacci, thankyou once again, i really appreciate your help, if you find out anymore, i'd be delighted to know.      kindest regards RAb
