Can anything be deduced from these two facts together - they didn't all ride horses, did they?

The British Army in WW1, like the other armies was powered by horses. The guns were pulled by horses (well not the really big ones!) the ammunition and the food was delivered by horses... ;D

I asked a guy who has researched ww1 in Holmfirth but he couldnt find any Patterson in KOYLI in the enlistment lists or Absent Voters List in Holmfirth. :(
