Can anyone identify these uniforms please
« on: Thursday 04 December 08 22:11 GMT (UK) »
I've just 'met' another relative who has supplied me with some great photographs.  Two are unidentified - no-one knows who they are so I thought that if we could identify the uniforms it might give us a start.

They look, to my uninitiated eye, very ordinary but it's worth asking, isn't it?

Any takers?

Christine

First photo is a tricky one, as can't see the badge.
The second looks like a company sergeant major in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. If the surname is Patterson, then that should (hopefully) be good enough to find his MIC. He has a couple of medal ribbons on his chest, but can't make them out.
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

It could be 1918 (onwards to 1922) as the service cap that he is shown wearing was introduced in 1917.

ummm Second pic...he has riding breeches on!

More than likely the MT section...Taken in Holmfirth....(cue last of the summer wine theme tune...)

Possibly 1919/20 But the medal ribbons would be of use!!

First pic...Ummm....

Cant make out the badge at all...

Any chance of a close up of the hat pse?
One more charge and then be dumb,

The info is coming thick and fast and all gratefully received.

I've looked at all the Pattersons on the list, Ady, but apart from the mandatory James and Henry which we nearly all have, nothing rings a bell with me but might with the branch of the family these pics came from.

Sharp eyes, Scrimnet, I hadn't spotted Holmfirth.  The people these pics came from are based in Huddersfield so he could have been on leave when this was taken.  I'm off now to have a go with the hat!
