Back in 1881, it seems to have been entirely Scottish http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/Map.aspx?name=LEADINGHAM&year=1881&altyear=1998&country=GB&type=name

but LEADENHAM http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/Map.aspx?name=LEADENHAM&year=1881&altyear=1998&country=GB&type=name

Also check IGI for common forenames - John, William, Mary, Ann etc .... LEADINGHAMs in Scotland, LEADENHAMs near Leadenham

Scottish 1851 census has all LEADINGHAMs/LEDINGHAMs as Scottish born, so likely no immigration in late 1700s.

LEDINGHAM is much more common and may be found in Scotland back to early 1700s (IGI).

Do your family have Scots links?
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

There appears to have been an  ancient link between Leadenham and Scotland

Thanks again Geoff very interesting, one of my relations in Arbroath who is 88 years young seems to think we (The Leadingham's ) came up to collect taxes from the Highlanders and settled in the area which is quite possible.
                                    Regards
