James Gaskill Cheetham. Stockport
« on: Monday 08 December 08 10:24 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find early information about James Gaskill Cheetham's life. he was born about 1818 in Stockport according to family information. His father was also a James Cheetham and his middle name might also have been Gaskill. JGC married Phoebe Jackson on 22/11/1846 in Stockport. they later moved to Crumpsall in Lancashire where they lived for the rest of their lives.
if there is anyone researching this particular family who can add any more information i would be very grateful.
also does anyone know the reason why so many male generations had 'Gaskill' as their second name?

thanks for any help anyone can give.
Anton

Sorry, can't help with the rest of your query, but my guess is that Gaskill was the maiden name of James's mother or grandmother. I've seen many ancestors in my tree who were given their mother's, grandmother's, even great-grandmother's maiden name as a middle name.

Cheers,
chris
