From Google:  ancient shepherds

The Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds (Ashton Unity) was founded in Ashton-Under-Lyne, England, in 1826 as a "sick and burial club". It's popularity grew swiftly and the movement crossed the border into Scotland in 1868. The first lodge, the "Pride of Leven Lodge No1335" was founded in Dumbarton in 1868, in Glasgow in 1870 and in Edinburgh in 1876. In the 1990s, the society changed its name from the Loyal Order of Ancient Shepherds (Ashton Unity) to The Shepherds' Friendly Society and the society is still trading under this name.
