Surname Angwin in Queensland Electoral Rolls prior 1903 - Lookup please
« on: Friday 02 January 09 20:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone- Looking for anyone name Angwin in the Queensland Electoral Rolls before 1936. Possible relatives of Mary Johns Angwin born c. 1862 in England. Don't know when she arrived in Australia and who she might have come with. She had a son in Toowoomba in 1886. She was not married and living with Robert James Wright. Listed as Mary Johns Wright in 1903 electoral rolls.

Thanks, Sherry H.

Can you identify this one:
Assisted Immigrants 1883-1912
Angwin B (Mr)
no age given
ship: Taroba
arrived 22 Jul 1890

Can't see any other Angwins online at:
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/indexes.asp
but online records are not complete.

Seems an unusual surname and probably suffers from misinterpretation.  ;)

Thanks, Jenn & Ruskie - None match parents or siblings. It was worth a try. I'll keep searching.

Jenn, I had the marriage, but thanks again.

Hi Jenn- Here's the family info:

father: John Angwin born 1830 Cornwall, Eng. died before 1871 probably England, but unknown

mother: Jane (Symons) Angwin born 1834 St. Hilary, England died unknown

issue:

Emily Angwin birth England death unknown

Eliza  Angwin born 1859 England  death unknown

Phillipa Angwin born 1860 England death unknown

Mary Johns Angwin born 1862 Cornwall, Eng. Living with Robert James Wright 1903 Emu Park, Capricornia. Had his son in Toowoomba 1886. Married Charles Harling Marshall 1912 Cairns, Aust. Died Brisbane, Aust 1950.

Amelia Symons Angwin born 1864 England death unknown

Not sure if it will do you any good. :) But thanks for trying. That's all the info I have on the family other than Mary Johns (Angwin) Marshall's residence, 1913, 1915, 1919. She was living in Cairns.

The strange thing to me is that no father is listed on her son's birth certificate 1886, but his name is Robert James and he later uses the surname of Wright. Mary Johns uses the surname of Wright on the 1903 electoral roll and is living with Robert James Wright, but she lists herself as a spinister when she marries Charles Marshall nine years later at age 50. No marriage or divorce has been found in Queensland for she and Robert James Wright. He was not dead when she married Charles Marshall.

I have no idea where or when she came to Australia or if she came with anyone. Thanks for all your help. Research there is hard to do from the USA.

Thanks, Jenn. I didn't have that. wonder if Mary Johns came to Australia alone? Could she have been a convict? I have no idea, just a thought.

Highly  unlikey to be  a convict if she was in England in 1871
