Sherry,

Next time I go to the Qld State Archives I can check the immigration records for any Angwin arrivals. But as Jenn says, they may have arrived in a different State and later moved to Queensland.

Do you think Mary Johns may have left a will?

Her death certificate should show how long she lived in Qld (and any other State), giving an indication of immigration year. Purchasing this would be a last resort (due to the huge hassles, time and expense ofo purchasing Qld certificates  :P)

What exactly are you hoping to find?
Immigration records? Living relatives?  :)

I'm hoping to find immigration records for Mary Johns Angwin and actual relationship to Robert James Wright (Sr.).

I have her death certificate and it says she's been in Queensland 70 years when she died in 1950. It says she's 88 years old, which I believe is incorrect. Of course this info is only as good as the person's knowledge who gave it. Her son Robert James is listed as informant living in Innisfail.

I just bit the bullet and ordered Robert James Wright's marriage certificate in 1915. He married Catherine Evelyn Mary Thomas. I'm curious as to who he lists as parents and where exactly he was living and his occupation. It should say Mary Johns Angwin and Robert James Wright. Crossing my fingers. It will be interesting to see. One of the few certificates I don't have. :)

You have a year of birth of 1862 for Mary Johns and a year of death of 1950 - age 88 ... that seems to tally up quite nicely.

Is it the 70 years in Qld that you think is incorrect?

She could very well have made the journey alone in 1880 at the age of 18. I believe there was 'supervison' on board for the single women who travelled alone.  ;)

Do you have information about Robert James Wright snr before the birth of his and Mary's son in 1886? Was he from England too, and if so, do you know where?

I don't know of a marriage in Queensland. No I don't have his death certificate. I figured I'd see what Jr's days for parents before ordering the death from 1923.

Yes, that's probably best. I was just curious to see if son Robert James was named as his child on the d/c, and also interested to see if Robert James snr was born in England.

Robert snr's parents are James Wright and Sarah Hamill. (I suppose you already know this?)
