Hi,
The area is Coggeshall. I've got back as far as Thomas Rowland 1806 and his wife Caroline nee Franklin for the Rowland's with a possibility that the farther was Northy Rowland.
for the Larrett's I've got John Larrett 1804 who married a Jane. Is that any help?! :)

Hi,

The following probably will not help because I imagine you already have the info but in case you haven't, or you're interested here goes!  There was a Rowland family living in West Street Coggeshall in the 1881 census for Coggeshall, these Rowlands were all stated to be born in Great Coggeshall.

RG11 1807/48 page 12.

George, head, 45, Carrier.
Sarah Ann, wife, 44.
Walter, son, 16, Ag Labourer.
Albert, son, 15, Scholar.
Maud, dau, 10, Scholar.
George, son, 6, Scholar.
Ann Harris, Mother-in-law, 88, Pauper, birthplace Pattiswick, Essex.

I found this many years ago whilst looking for my Coggeshall Harris families, the name Rowland coupled with Harris and Coggeshall rung a bell, so I went to my census extract file (hard copy) and found the Harris/Rowland connection.  Sarah Ann Rowland (nee Harris) is about the right age to be the Sarah Ann Harris born 1837 Coggeshall, daughter of my ancestor, the elusive Joseph Harris c1806, who in the 1851 Coggeshall census claims he was born in Little Coggeshall.  However Joseph married a Pattiswick girl Lucy Turner who is the mother of the Sarah Ann Harris born 1837 Coggeshall in my Harris line.  Coincidence?

Anyway, nice to know my memory is still working OK  ;D.

Regards

Brilliant!
Thank you very much. I haven't been able to get the 1881 census for some reason, very odd!
This is good stuff and I can add it in to my family tree. Are you looking for Rowlands? I can pass on any info I find if you like  ;D

Hi Ginihan,

If I thought the Sally Ann Rowland nee Harris was the daughter of Joseph and Lucy Harris, bap 9 Apr 1837, I would have been interested in George Rowland's birth or baptism plus the date of the marriage to Sally Ann.  However I really don't think that George's wife Sally Ann could be the daughter of Joseph Harris, unless of course the enumerator recorded the name Ann in error instead of Lucy.

Joseph and Lucy's sons, William and Joseph, both named a daughter Sarah Ann, I wonder were the Sally Anns named named after their aunt or is it a name handed down through the generations, I guess I'll never know.  Since I haven't yet been able to find Joseph Harris c1806 it is also possible the Sally Ann Harris in the 1881 Census descends from a brother of Joseph Harris 1806.

Another factor is that on checking my notes in Brother's Keeper, I find recorded that my mother thought Joseph's daughter Sally Ann married a Henry Dalton, no date etc, quite likely though because Sally Ann's brother Joseph (born 1831) married an Eliza Dalton.

Regards.

Several family trees on this site assert that Northy Rowland (b. Coggeshall 1776) was the father of Thomas Rowland (b. Coggeshall 1806), and it could  be true, but I too would like to know what evidence there is.

I am descended through Thomas' youngest son, Benjamin Revett Rowland. Incidentally, I would love to know why Thomas' two youngest children (Hannah Revett Rowland b. 1850 and Benjamin Revett Rowland b. 1852) both have Revett as their middle name. Any thoughts?
