Hi all

I've come to a bit of a grinding halt with my Crawford research and wonder if anyone can help?

MARGARET MCNICHOL, b. 03 Feb 1861, Cumlodden, Argyll.

MARGARET CRAWFORD, b. 26 Aug 1823, Sherdrim, Glassary, Argyllshire.  She married JAMES TURNER, Herring Fisher, 06 Dec 1845 in Glassary, Argyll, son of DUNCAN TURNER and MARY.  He was born Abt. 1822.
Children of MARGARET CRAWFORD and JAMES TURNER are:
DUNCAN TURNER, b. 16 Aug 1847, Glassary, Argyll.

Hi ev

Now you're throwing a spanner in the works!

Who's OH? ???  Where's the Post? ::)

Would you be prepared to email a scan of the 1845 'handwritten marriage note' to me by PM?

I seem to recall I have some info (somewhere) about a McVicar connection that came from a conversation my son had with a fellow-trucker!

Hi again ev

I found the information that I had on file for the McVicar connection.  It's not much to go on ...

G/G/Fr John Crawford m. Katie McVicar.
G/Fr William Crawford b. 28.10.15, d. 16.10.79, m. Mary Mitchel  b. Minard, Argyll, d. 16.8.78.
Brother Niven Crawford.
Mum is Kathleen Crawford b. 25.12.1941 Ardrishaig, Argyll m. John Maclachlan

I haven't had a chance to do any follow-up work on it, as yet, but is it ringing any bells?

I am also descended from Donald and Mary Crawford through their daughter Isabel.  However, my great-grandmother Christina McNicoll (the spelling of the surname varies a lot) was also one of Isabel's daughters and was born around 1852-55, although she is not included in your list.  She married Alexander McTavish, and their daughter, Isabella Crawford McTavish was my maternal grandmother, born around 1882.  Christina's sister Margaret (my grandmother's aunt) is listed as living with the McTavish family in Glasgow in the 1891 census.

Hi Big Ron

Many thanks for resurrecting this thread!  I must confess I haven't done too much on my early Crawford family since I discovered that there were quite a lost of men called DONALD CRAWFORD who married girls called MARY CAMPBELL and I wasn't able to sort out which one was mine.  I'm pretty sure I've got the right pairing though.

RE your post ... Isabel born 27August 1820 in Sherdrim married ARCHIBALD McNICHOL again the spelling variation and I have 5 bairns for them : Alexander born 16 November 1844, Donald born 28 December 1845, John born 12 May 1858, un-named (female) born 4 September 1859 and Margaret born 3 February 1861.

There's quite a gap between Donald and John, so it's possible that your Great-grandmother Christina arrived somewhere in then as you reckon she was born 1852-1855.  I'd be keen to learn more.
