Auchtergaven MI's - Dunn, Wylie, Crichton

Hi

I am looking for any information about the Dunn family many of whom I believe originate from Waterloo, Auchtergaven. The family in question are John Dunn who died on 11 Jul. 1861. I don't yet know where he was buried. He was married to a Mary Wyllie but I cannot find any detail on her. John's parents were Robert Dunn who was married to Isabella Crichton. Again I do not have any further detail on these famly members. Any information or guidance on the aforefmentioned or their familes would be most welcome.

Hello again DDDJake - yes youv'e tracked me down again. Thanks for taking the time to have a look - this time for Dunn's/Dun's in Auchtergaven.

I already had the detail you gave me but just like my ancestors in Stirling I seem to be at a dead end. I've been to Auchtergaven churchyard but to no avail. Again I know little of Mary Wylie (John's wife) or Isabella Crichton (Robert's wife). I know John died at Waterloo, Auchtergaven but perhaps there was no headstone at his grave.

This family tree business sure takes me around Scotland. I have Dunn/McGregors in Perthshire, Eadie/Pollocks in Bannockburn, Gibsons in Dumfriesshire, Warnocks\Tweedies in Lanarkshire and Currells in Oxfordshire - to name a few. I have managed to get back to GGGF/GGGM on most lines but it sure gets difficult after that.

One problem you have are the gaps around 1800 -1820 in OPRs for both Auchtergaven and Auchterarder!

Once again many thanks for all the info. Yes I did already know most of this however it was interesting to see Andrew noted as a widower in the 1881 census when I know his wife Margaret died in 1895? I also had Andrew down as being born in Auchtergaven rather than Auchterarder so this needs a little investigation.

Hi..just to let you know I am also connected to the DUNN families from Auchterarder..closest being David DUNN b: 1826 Auchterarder who married Ann McLauchlan b: 7 Dec 1823 of Perthshire  on 26 Nov 1847 St Martins  before coming to New Zealand  in 1855 with three of their children: John b: 13 Sep 1849 Kettins, Majory b: 1851 Kinnaird & David b: 1854 Perthshire.

Most of my connections in the Orkney Islands come from Stronsay but needless to say Sanday & Orkney itself include some of them.

My Laughton was Margaret Laughton b: 1765 ..know nothing of her parents or siblings.  Margaret married Peter Shearer b: 17 Mar 1766 Stronsay whose parents were Peter Shearer b: 1735 & Jean Sinclair b: 1739. 
Margaret & Peter had 3 sons that I know of:
George Shearer b: 19 Oct 1797 Stronsay
John Shearer b: ABT 1786 Stronsay
Peter Shearer b: 1784 Stronsay

A little more about my Dunns.

David Dunn b: 1826 I mentioned in my earlier posting was the 5th son of John & Margaret Gibb.  His grandfather Archibald Dunn, is believed to have been the 7th son of William DUNN b: 1712, who married Elizabeth Mailer.  The DUNN line sometimes spelt DUN, reaches far back in the history of this small Perthshire town (Auchterarder), & sons seem to greatly outnumber daugthers in their large families!
The DUNN family is closely identified with the Erskine Clan, whose motto 'Je Pense Plus' translates as 'I think More'.
