Hi Gerry,
On your list of cemetery names I noticed numbers 31 and 32 were Donnelly.  Would you have any more information ie. first names.
regards colcal

A question on this subject which I hope will not offend.  Was this a predominantly Catholic cemetery?  I am reseaching my family in this general area but they were for the most part so far as I know of the Protestant faith.  Would appreciate clarification.  Thank you.

Hi Jewel,

Both Old Dalbeth and St Peter's cemeties are owned and operated by the catholic church so I would reckon that the majotity of burials would be of the catholic faith however I wouldn't rule out that all are as I'm sure they wouldn't turn anyone away and there is no way of knowing what religion anyone is from their headstone unless a clergyman etc.
There is a large amount of graves of clergymen and nuns within these cemeteries but also a large area of unmarked graves belonging to people who were taken in at the former convant that passed away.
The microfishe of burial registers is held in the Mitchel library which would be the only way of confirming or dismissing.

Gerry,
Thanks for that info.  I am hoping to be  able to make another trip to Scotland before old Father Time catches up to me so will leave it at that for the present.  Really great work being done by Rootchat members in this regard.  I am sure it is much appreciated by all who use this forum.

Hi Richard

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

You need to have made at least 3 posts on the main forum before you can use the PM service to email other RCs. So just make a couple more and you will be able to access this service. Gerry will get notification of your post here and I'm sure will be in touch.

Monica - Thanks for that

I am interested in Gerry's information on Dalbeth as my Great, great, great grandparents are buried there, Lawrence and Bridget Conway.

I was in the Mitchell Library in December and managed to find the lair number etc. and I am hoping that Gerrys "Conway 22" are them.

I'm in Aberdeen these days (ex-Motherwell) and it's no always easy to get down the road.

Cheers

Richard
