Hi Jan,

I have a couple in my tree, but I dont know which parents to attach the wife to; This couple was a Rebecca Dancy born about 1806 who married a Thomas Batchelor on 26 Sept 1829 in Wivelsfield Sussex.

I would be interested to find out anything more about the parents of both parties and any marriage witnesses if it is likely they might be mentioned on the records that early.

The Dancy family came from Sussex and had close connections to Wivelsfield so I think there is a chance Rebecca was born there.  This couple emigrated to Toronto.

If the records are too early for such information then please disregard this request.

1851: Canada, by or at Saw Mill, which was next to Grist Mill in Hastings County, Canada West (Ontario) in the sub district of Tudor, Elzevir and Madoc.

Thanks for any help,

Hi Jan

Me again, hope you don't think I am a pain  ;D

Would you mind looking up a baptism for John Lander which should be 1812 in Twineham.  He should be born to William Lander and Elizabeth, but so far not managed to find a marriage despite being told it was 1810 in Twineham.

The next three children, Elizabeth, Henry and Mary were all born in Twineham from 1813 and I have their baptisms.

Also could you check Albourne, Sussex 23 November 1781 marriage of William Launder to Ann?  There is an extracted record on the IGI with no spouse name, and this marriage is not on the Sussex Marriage Index.

Thank you

Kerry

Hi Penny

According to my list the West Sussex RO don't have Wivelsfield on fiche - however I will check the marriage as they might have added since or there maybe a transcript. Unfortunately if Thomas and Rebecca were non-conformist it will be more difficult to track them down - however they may have been baptised in the local church anyway.

I will see what I can find

Jan

With regard to the above Lander family would you mind looking for any other Lander children born before 1812 at Twineham particularly William.

I have just found a setlement examination on Sussex Record Society mentioning William and Elizabeth Lander of Twineham born in albourne which fits with mine and there is a child William mentioned.  The date is 5 September 1807.  This could mean possibly that William and Elizabeth's marriage could be earlier than 1810.  They are called Launders on this settlement.  The name seems to interchange between Lander/Landers/Launder/Launders  ::)

Thank you

Hi Jan, and thank you for your generous offer!

I'm trying to find a John Delves, thought to be the son of John Delves and his wife May or Mary.  He emigrated to Australia in 1839-40, and the purser (?) on his ship marked his birthplace as "Hallenden", which may have been either Hollington or Dallington, mis-heard (once in NSW, he married a Catsfield girl, and I gather both these places are within coo-ee of Catsfield).  We think he was born around 1818, as the purser also said he was 21 years old in January of 1840 when the "James Pattison" arrived in NSW.

It's not much to go on, I know ... but any clues you might find would be greatly appreciated  :)

Cheers
Deb
