Thanks Oly, i went back on and could not find it then i put less detail in and found it. I had put down his place of birth (ireland) and thats when it did not come up. What worries me is that it might not be the right one because he was definately born in ireland. Might it mean that he did not put a birth place on the 1911 census??
Cumbria - Whitfield, Fagan, Murphy, Sloan, Weighman, Ousby, Brunskill
Hampshire - Alford
Ireland - County Down - Fagan, Murphy
Kidderminster - Whitfield

In 1911 there was a John SLOAN 35 born in Cumberland living in Co Durham.

Thanks Geoff, found that, eventually, might get his marriage cert so i can find his fathers name to confirm. Then hopefully can find his enlistment into the army for the 1st world war
