Can anyone tell me if numbers 59 and 114 Castle Street, Montrose are still there please.  Also can anyone say what is Scotts Hall and where it is.

Many thanks,

Lynda

Hi Lynda.
The Postal Address Book for Scotland 1998/99 has this:
Castle Street - Odds 3-51 & 57a - 57F.
                        Evens 2a - 96 & 100 - 120
As you can see from the above there is no mention of No.59 so it may have been demolished. I couldn't find a Scotts Hall but there is a Scott Jubilee Hall in Panmure Place, Montrose.  According to a website it is a meeting hall for community use.

Hello Isles,
How are you?  I am currently researching my Gt Grandparents MacDonald/McAllister.  The MacDonalds lived at 114 Castle Street, and the McAllisters lived at 59.  They were married at 'Scotts Hall' in 1896.  Would this make sense?

Thank you,
Regards,
Lynda

Hi again Lynda.  Presumably the Scott Jubilee Hall was erected at the time of  Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee (1887) or her Diamond Jubilee (1897).
Regards,
Isles.

Hi Isles,
I did  think that it may have been something like this.  Does this still stand today?  I have a great big list of places to visit when the good weather comes.  It has been lovely today in East Lothian and the weather is getting colder and wilder now that it is getting dark.  I keep praying that my wee greenhouse will not blow away as we live in a wind tunnell.....
Take care and thanks for your replies.
Lynda

A friend of mine who lives in Montrose tells me that the Scott Jubilee Hall is still in existence and is located just behind the Day Care Centre.

Regards,
Bervonian.

Thank you Isles,

I have just got an email to tell me where my gt grandmother Macdonald is buried.  She never moved out of Castle Street for her whole life.  Her Last Address was 38 Castle Street.  Her son James lived at 46 Glenesk Avenue Montrose.  Would that have been close Isles?
Have got loads to see on my next visit which is planned for a few weeks in February.
Gradually fitting all the bits together with a little help from yourself.

Many thanks
Lynda

Hi Lynda

Glenesk Avenue is only 5 mins by car or 15 mins on foot from Castle Street.

Regards

Susan.

hi, u said your gt grandmother Mcdonald's last address was 38 Castle St.  Is that Montrose because my husbands 2gt grandmother also lived at 38 Castle St and that was her address on her death cert in 1937.  Her name was Isabella Baird.

Thank you Isles,
