Hello AJM, I am assuming you are in Canada?
I have yet to establish a connection with your line of Hele & Turpin Rowse, but I am in touch with a lady in Sussex who is DEFINITELY connected.
She has asked me to direct you to the Ancestry board to make contact with her.
Also, when I started to answer your message I discovered that I could forward it to a friend, so I did send it to her.
I hope you manage to link up, and wish you the best of luck, mowsehowse.

Hello mowsehouse
Yes I live in southwestern Ontario in Canada.  Thank you for your reply.  I hope I can make contact with the lady from Sussex.  This Harford Devon line is a whole new trail for me to follow.  Pun intended

Thank you

Hi AJM - I did let her know about the posting here, and if you try Ancestry you should link up that way too.
Good luck.

To mowsehowse and a j m , I have just seen your entries.  You both need to see John Street's 'A Genealogy of the Rouses of Devon' in which chapter 6 is devoted to what he calls Rowse of Wembury.   It has all the details of the John Hele Rowses.
Copies of Street's book in England are at the Society of Genealogists and libraries in Exeter and Plymouth. Your local librarian might help locate a copy for you

Many thanks. I do have a copy of John's book, in fact I collaborated with him quite closely for the Brixham chapter, but the story is not finished - and there surely MUST be someone out there who is interested??  Somewhere??

Did you get in touch with Katie?  Was it productive?
I feel a bit sad to have heard nothing??  ::)

Hello.  Sorry mowsehowse.  No, I haven't been able to get to the library to use ancestry yet to see if I could make contact, but my searches have been far from unproductive.  I have come across a couple of directly related Rowse genealogists who have compiled much pertinent info.  I have been digesting it all ravenously.

Hello,

Whilst nothing to do with the Rouses of Cornwall I am researching the Rouses of Warks,Worcs,Glos.

There are all the various spellings to go through and I think Rosse is a possibility but Rose does not seem to be, as there were both Rouses and Roses in the various villages. It would be interesting to know how the names were pronounced years ago to get over this difference.

I was initially attracted to the idea of connecting mine with armigerous Rouses of Worcs. etc (subsequently Rouse/Boughtons) as this would take me even further back. This family had lands where mine come from, in the 1400 & 1500s but I can't make any connection, so I think perhaps younger branches were omitted from Visitations.

Hi ajm - glad you are making progress.

David - I have never come across any Rowses in your specialist counties, but if you know of a "Grace" birth and then no more info, please do give me a shout.   I would guess our missing lassy was born between -  say 1745 and 1765.

Good luck both of you.
