I should also say that my grandmother was known as Mary Ellen even though her name was Mary Helen. It gets very confusing!

Th emoderator took your email address out so I can't contact you directly. I am still in contact with my Uncle Hec and a few of my grandmothers nieces but they are all quite reluctant to talk about the past. I recently found out that there were 8 children altogether in my grandmothers family two of whom died very young. They are all passed now though. There was James, 2 Alexanders, William, Elizabeth, Mary Helen, Rosie and one other who I can't find anything about apart from I know that they existed!

Hello trevallyn, it has taken some time to reply,
 my gr grandfather George Wilson Gatt b pennan 1854 was the brother of James Gatt b pennan 1852 his son William Gatt b Gamrie  1879 his dau was Elizabeth Wiseman Gatt b 1902 Lerwick, mother of Bill Smith your dad.

Hi. I am new to Rootschat and am unsure how it works. Does anyone have any more info on Catherine Bruce/John Alexander Gatt? They moved to Australia in 1940's(?), settling in Adelaide.
