Hi Rog

What a gentleman you are - thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to help me with this "riddle".

I have now ordered the marriage between Jesse & Amelia.  If both their father's names match with those of Jesse's and Mildred's, then I think it is conclusive that Amelia and Mildred were indeed one and the same person.

BUT ... if in the meantime I locate a baptism for someone named Amelia Anderson circa 1817 at Teynham, then I will have additional research to undertake!!!

I was most interested to see William Jarrett WIDOWER at marriage to Mary Barratt in 1813.  I had already gleaned this marriage from IGI together with a baptism for William in 1779, so assumed he might have been married before, either that or he was an old(ish) bridegroom!  Your findings have confirmed my suspicions on the former theory, thank you.

So, I wait arrival of the marriage certificate 1840 for Jesse and Amelia and if both fathers' names are correct, I think I shall put this one to bed.

Once again, very grateful thanks for your interest.  I will let you know the outcome.
kindest regards
Carol

Hi Carol , :)
            We aint finished yet, ;)

I managed to get onto the PRs for Teynham this afternoon,Think this will conclusively wrap up your problem and maybe take you back a bit further,
It is now my considered opinion  8) after many deviations :-\ that Mildred and Amelia are one and the same. Presumeably when she was Christened Mildred she was named after her Aunty. Then for some reason we will never know, maybe a fit of pique or trendy thing to do, she decided to call herself Amelia sometime prior to her Marriage.
She then continued as Amelia until about 1851-1855 in a different, although close, village  she reverted to Mildred and was eventually buried as such. I should add I have not noticed any Amelia's to any families on the PR's at all today.
I will add a cautionary note here .If you are concentrating on Jarretts it is a very prolific surname in this area,
At the time Jesse and Amelia/Mildred were living in Bapchild there were 4 or 5 other Jarrett couples knocking out Kids wholesale . Theres barely a page of the registers without 1 or 2 on it.
Any way heres what I gleaned for you. I think that this about exhausts the info available . If you have any specific lookup you need just ask and I'l do my best for you.
I dont think I have missed anything out but I am not infallible!

Teynham Parish Registers.

First there is not a Marriage between Jarrett and Anderson between 1838-1842 so the marriage must have been in one of the other parishes in the Faversham reg district. The PRs are quite legible at this date. The Marriage cert will give you the parish they were married in.

Found Baptisms for

Sarah Elizabeth           Mar19 1815          Dau of Thomas and Sarah Anderson
Mildred                        Aug 29 1817         Dau of Thomas and Sarah Anderson
Eliza  Ann                    Aug 29 1819         Dau of Thomas and Sarah Anderson
Thomas                       July  1   1821         Son of Thomas and Sarah Anderson

Checking Back I found
Marriage
Thomas Anderson & Sarah Carey                May 18 1812

I then found Mildred’s Grandparents Marriage.
Checking the Banns Reg for that period I found Banns for the marriage between Richard Anderson & Ann Allard both of Teynham Parish read on Sundays the 8,15. 22 Aug 1779.
The marriage followed on 7 Sept 1779

 Found Baptisms for
Catherine                     Dec 15 1781           Dau of Richard and Ann Anderson
James                          April 27 1794          Son of Richard and Ann Anderson
Mildred                         April 21st 1796.      Dau of Richard and Ann Anderson

The records are illegible in many areas between 1779 & 1812 so I would surmise by the general pattern of births circa that era there are several other siblings at 2 year intervals between 1781 &1796 which would give you another possible 6 children including Thomas (Mildred’s Father) in the family.
Found Baptism for  Frances Sept 10 1843         Son of Jesse and Amelia.
Checking the Burials I could find no Burials for Mildred/Amelia or Jesse Between 1865 & 1880.

Bapchild Parish Registers.
Baptisms
Jesse                               21 Dec 1851               Son of Jesse and Amelia
Eliza                                 2 Dec   1885               Son of Jesse and Mildred

All data here sourced from viewing Micro Films of documents at County Library.

Please let me know how you get on if you get the Marriage Cert
                                 Goodbye for Now
                                                Best Regards, Rog. :D ;D

Rog, you are amazing - thank you so much for all you have done today.

I await the arrival of the marriage cert Jesse Jarrett & Amelia, due out to me on 26th Jan.  Will post a message to you to tell you what it contains.

My interest in this family is Frances 1843 who, as you rightly say, was baptised to parents Jesse & Amelia, but found in the household of Jesse & Mildred, so I am now confident that this is as I first thought, a change of christian name for Amelia, for whatever reason we will never quite know.

I spent some time this afternoon researching Jarretts and you are right, they are ten a penny!   Ancestry.com Worldtree has many users who have uploaded their own interpretation of the Jarrett family history, all of which I have taken with a pinch of salt.  However, I did find what I believe to be the first marriage between Jesse's father William Jarrett to a Sarah Parks 25.5.1801 at Bapchild.  I also spotted a burial in the National Burial Index for a Sarah Jarrett at Rodmersham 12 January 1809 which may be the correct one - who knows?  William then widowed, married Mary Barrett in 1813 and son Jesse followed.

I'd certainly be interested in any additional siblings to William Jarrett at Bapchild either side of 1779 if at any time you are visiting the records.  His parents were (as far as IGI are concerned) George Jarrett and Elizabeth Corke .... but beware ... IGI also has several other baptisms to a George/Elizabeth CRONKE combination which don't bear much relevence.

Jesse & Mildred were living at Sittingbourne at the time of their deaths in 1878 & 1873 respectively.  I have not purchased their death certificates (I was a bit hesitant until I could be certain of who they really were), so I do not know where they may be buried and they do not appear in the National Burial Index.

Your efforts have been amazing Rog, thank you again for all you have done.  I will let you know what the marriage cert has to offer plus anything else of relevance, just as soon as I have the data to hand.

Again, many grateful thanks.
Carol
