Hello Tom,

Welcome to Rootschat!

Could you provide some more details please?

If we know what info you already have it would save a lot of time. Even if it's the bare minimum to begin with, it'll provide a good base for starting from. Any births, marriages, deaths or Census info you have, include it on a message and we'll take it from there.

Anne

Hi, apanderson,  I have traced family back to a William Provan born September 1763 to a David Provan and Janet Cowan in St Ninians  Using the usual method of 1st. son named after fathers father I came up with nothing from I.G.I and O.P.R. There seems to be a gap in the St Ninians Church Records for these dates. I have David born Circa 1737. The problem is that the Provans seemed to have propageted the Stirling area. Any help would be appreciated.

Tom

HI DAVIE, KNOW ABOUT THAT FAMILY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND PROOF FROM AWAY BACK THEN AS THE RECORDS ARE MOSTLY LOST. I DO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE PART OF MY TREE.

Hi Tom you sent me a private message I read it and It didn't mean anything to me. I was just telling my mum about it today and she said all she knew was that her dad William Provan had a brother David, So I decided to go back to my private message and noticed that you're surname was Provan wow and then I went onto you're messages and noticed that throught the generations the two names were William and David Provan, I really do think that our family are the same, my grandfather William Provan came from Stirlingshire or Kilsyth, please get intouch what was you're dads name?

kindest regards Jane ;)
