Marriage ?
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 13:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello ,
I am trying to establish how George Thomas Strickland born 1891 was a son in law to a relative of mine Sarah Grace Prout. He was named on Sarah's death cert in 1932. I can't seem to find his marriage at all . He was sharing house with Minnie Strickland at the time so presume married to her but can't find .
Any help much appreciated
Regards
Alan
ps He was born Charlton Kings , Cheltenham and in Charlton Kings in 1932 also .

HAve you got Sarah on 1901 censuses? who was her husband and children? Had she been married more than once?
Can you work from there and reach George? How do you know George's year of birth? Have you got more info on him that just a name and relationship on a death cert?

Hello Liz ,
Sarah Grace Stear married my great great grandad in 1905 , he was Thomas Prout of Brampford Speke . He died 1915. Sarah had been married before  to Charles Henry Stear , her maiden name was Kerswell . She was 77 when she died in 1932 , which is where I have Strickland on cert . I did a BMD search for him and also found him on Army Pensions , confirming his date of birth . I still can't seem to find G T Strickland marriage though .
Regards
Alan

So - what children did she have, who could have married George)?
Or did she have any step children - not hers but belonging to second husband from his previous marriage (if he had one) - if hehad a daughter, her step daughter, she might have married Mr S, and for ease he used the phrase son in law, rather than step son in law, esp if they were reasonably close.

Now you have me fascinated - though slightly off the subject!

I looked up the marriage of Sarah G Kerswell on FreeBMD - sure enough found her marrying Charles Henry Stear, Kingsbridge Devon in 1874

BUT
I also notice a Sarah G Kerswell marrying a William PROUT in 1919 (Totnes Devon)
Is this just a co-incidence? You say her second marriage (when she was Stear, not Kerswell anyway) was in 1905 and Mr P was Thomas. (indeed I can also see that one on FreeBMD in Exeter)
just amazed to see this second link between a Sarah G Kerwell (unusual name, and same middle initial) and the surname Prout!

sorry, a bit sidetracked ...

Hello

In the third quarter of 1920 there is a marriage registration in Cheltenham for a George T Strickland and a Minnie F Stear. The GRO reference is 6a 1303

Does that help at all ?
