Found this marriage

Date of Marriage 18 Aug 1910
Groom Name william MCWATTERS
Bride Name margaret ANDERSON
Church Newtown Crommelin Presbyterian Church
Parish Newtown Crommelin
Civil District Ballymena
County Antrim

Surname Firstname Year Fathers Firstname county
MCWATTERS WILLIAM 1910 HUGH Antrim
ANDERSON MARGARET 1910 THOMAS Antrim
ANDERSON MARGARET 1910 JAMES Antrim

Not sure which is your Margaret's father as 2 Margaret Andersons married in same location & year.

You can search for marriage entries for Co Antrim at

http://www.ancestryireland.com/database.php?filename=db_QUIS

which shows 2 Hugh McWatters married in Co Antrim early enough to be William's father (both son of James, so could be remarriage?) - to Martha Morrow in 1852 (York St Pres, Belfast) and Jane Hills in 1861 (in Belfast Registry Office).

I also tried the 1911 census online at

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

but couldn't find them.

You can also look at the indexes for all civil registration 1864 to 1921 at

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

from which you can get references to order official certificates (there are over a thousand entries for McWatters in Co Antrim alone so expect a laborious trawl to find anything - I did find a Ruby born in Ballymena district in 1921 so there is hope!).

Good hunting.

oh thankyou for a quick reply.
below is the information i currently have:
Starting at my GreatGrandfather:
William Watters (Waters) born 1887 in Shotts Lanarkshire, Scotland
parents : Hugh Watters (Waters) b1855 in Ireland and Jane (Jean) Hall b1860 Ireland.

William married: Margaret (Maggie) Anderson born April 22, 1886 in Ballymena, Nth Ireland
Parents: Thomas James Anderson and Martha Henry

Is there any other information on Ruby born in 1921, it sounds like it could be my Great Aunty.
I know the left to New Zealand from Liverpool on the SS Tainui, and travelled 3rd Class and had been living in Cloughmills.
Ketels, Linnell, Bourke, Watters
Withy, Griffiths, Boswell,
Bell, Hunter, Carley, Anderson
Lane, Higgs,

Sounds like this is definitely your lot, only using the name McWatters in Northern Ireland and Hills has been passed down as Hall.  Here's Hugh and Jane's marriage

Date of Marriage 30 Jul 1861
Groom Name hugh MCWATTERS
Bride Name jane HILLS
Church Belfast Civil Registrars Office
Parish Shankill
Civil District Belfast
County Antrim

Surname Firstname Year Fathers Firstname county
MCWATTERS HUGH 1861 JAMES Antrim
HILLS JANE 1861 WILLIAM Antrim

Looks like they also seriously played down their ages in the source you have!!

To find the birth certificate details go to the link in my earlier post and search for McWatters, giving thousands of hits.  Then narrow by Place (selecting Co Antrim) and by Event (selecting birth).  Finally narrow by First Name, selecting initial R, and you will find Ruby quite easily.  You can do the same for all the family members you know to get the info needed to order a birth certificate (name, district, quarter, year, volume and page) and apply online at http://www.groni.gov.uk/index/order_certificates.htm

Also found this on Margaret's parents

5 Jan 1875
Groom Name thomas ANDERSON
Bride Name martha HENRY
Church Newtown Crommelin Presbyterian Church
Parish Newtown Crommelin
Civil District Ballymena
County Antrim

Surname Firstname Year Fathers Firstname county
HENRY MARTHA 1875 JAMES Antrim
ANDERSON THOMAS 1875 JAMES Antrim

Have you tried the partial 1851 census for Co Antrim?  There is a very good transcription on PDF on a recent link posted by OTTO on Rootschat - a massive file, but the best details I've seen online.

Before you go any further it is quite possible that the 1861 marriage of Hugh McWatters and Jane Hills is not the correct family.

Submitted records in Pedigree Resource File (www.familysearch.org) have the following family. Although submitted records can be mistaken that amount of exact names, dates and places makes this submission look reasonable.
Hugh McWatters married 30 July 1861 to Jane Hillis. Children: James (1861), Thomas (1862), Isabella (1865), William Alexander (1867), Ellen Jane (1870), Mary Elizabeth (1872), Hugh Andrew (1878), Lavina Hillis (1878)- the dates of the last 2 children are Aug. and Sept.1878 so one or both are incorrect. The important thing with this family is that the children from Isabella to Lavina are born in Australia.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

oh ok
i have seen the 1891 Scottish Census, and there is a William Watters born 1886 (my greatgrandfather) with his parents and siblings but it has the spelling as Waters.
I know Hugh was a Mining Contractor. he was born in Ireland, but William was born in Scotland, i know at least on of of sister's which is Hannah, she married a William Gallacher and they and their children came to New Zealand in 1926

 :-\

Ok I am still trying to figure this all out.
I am totally confused.
Thankyou to those that have given some information, but I am still confused.

Is there any records for a Hannah Watters born 1892 (there abouts) in Scotland.
She later married William Gallacher in Ireland and they came to New Zealand in 1925/26,
Ketels, Linnell, Bourke, Watters
Withy, Griffiths, Boswell,
Bell, Hunter, Carley, Anderson
Lane, Higgs,

Scottish BMD records are available online at Scotland's People website. See www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for information on what details are on Scottish certificates (more info. than on Irish ones) and how to purchase credits to view them.
