Census look up please 1881, 1871, 1861 MITCHELL
« on: Sunday 01 February 09 16:34 GMT (UK) »
Please can someone help me trace Thomas Mitchell?

I have him in the 1891 census RG12/1327/90/42 living in West Ham, aged 35, dock labourer, born Doncaster.

His father was Charles, whose occupation in 1885 was furniture dealer.

I'd very much appreciate it if someone could look at the 61, 71 and 81 census for me.

Very many thanks in advance,

emberry

Hi Kerry

Many thanks for that - it looks very hopeful! The furniture broker bit is pretty convincing.

It's very helpful, too to have the father in law there as it gives me a maiden name for Ann!

I'm really grateful to you  :) :)

regards,
emberry

That's brilliant, Kerry - thank you!

As you say - so many children! They were a large household, with father in law and a lodger there too. Still, I suppose with Charles being a furniture dealer they must have been ok for beds!! Looks as though they had acquired the next door house as well since the previous census.

I do appreciate your time and trouble on my behalf  :) :)

Glad to be of help and I did wonder whether William, the lodger who was a wood turner was making bit of furniture for Charles.

Yes - could be! I love trying to piece together these puzzles - I'm sure that half the time I'm way out with my guesses, but perhaps sometimes we're on the right track! ;)

Many thanks again,

Hi Lisa

Would love to be in touch. How are you related to Charles? He is my husband's gt gt grandfather on the paternal side. Could you let me have your email address perhaps?
Best wishes
