The census can be searched for free at automatedgenealogy.com (sorry, I couldn't seem to make a link this evening for some reason). The census was actually taken in 1852. When you get to the 1852 page select Canada West and type the last name you are looking for in the box. Then you look for  the name you are looking for in the index that appears and click on the related page to get the transcription. Once there, you can click on 'split view' at the top of page to also see the original image if you like.
