1841 census Barry/Gray
« on: Wednesday 04 February 09 21:24 GMT (UK) »

Not only can I not find the SHARP men in my earlier post,  I can't find these either:

RICHARD GRAY birth unknown occupation Seaman
MARY GRAY (wife of RICHARD) born circa 1786 Dorset

possible marriage on IGI RICHARD GRAY to MARY ANTHONY 31st Dec 1818, All Saints, Dorchester

Also their daughter SUSANNA/SUSAN GRAY is missing on the 1841.Possible baptism on IGI as 4th May 1823 in Wyke Regis, Dorset. Susanna/Susan married in 1839 to a Peter Barry in Kent so presumably she will be SUSANNA/SUSAN BARRY on the 1841 census in either Kent or Dorset.

On Susanna/Susan's 2nd marriage cert (1843) she states she is living in Whitstable, Kent.

Any help with these would be greatly appreciated!!

Me again

Cannot find Susannah on 1841 so looked up her Marriage on BMD
December qtr 1839  Blean  5 85  to Peter Barry

So then looked up any Births up to 1841 one only MARTIN WILLIAM BARRY Sept qtr 1841  same registration  Blean  5.  21
So no luck there in trying to find a child on Census as too soon Census taken 7th June that year.

Any ideas??

Many thanks for your help Pam!

I don't think I saw the 41 census you have added! I ill try and follow that family on subsequent census' and see where it leads. I know that Mary Gray was a widow by 1851, living with Susanna/Susan and her 2nd husband.

I had seen the birth reg for Martin William Barry, but the only census I have ever found him on is the 1851, and no death reg!

The Peter Barry you found is a possible, he died before 1843 as Susanna/Susan is widowed by her 2nd marriage. I agree the age seems too old especially as Susanna/Susan would have been around 16/17 at the time of 1st marriage!

The only to see I guess wll be to get Martin William Barry's birth cert!

Thanks again!

Some extra info I've just found from searching parish records online:

Richard and Mary Gray also had 2 sons:

JOSEPH ENGLISH GRAY  bap. 29 Jun 1828 in Wyke Regis

WILLIAM JAMES GRAY bap. 24 Jun 1821 in Wyke Regis

Also got the witnesses from the marriage:

Andrew John MILLER
Susanna BROWN
Samuel BAILEY

Still can't see them on the 1841 though!! :-\
