Welcome to rootschat ponti. A few questions if that's OK?

What year was the first child born or christened?

Do you have the family on any censuses? If so does it say where Edward and Mary were born?

[I might be completely wrong here, but the surnames sound Irish  and I'm wondering if you should be looking further afield than Leeds for the marriage.]

If I have the correct 1851 entry - Edward was b in Gibralter

These are the 2 IGI entries but there is another family headed by Edward & Mary Dalton who were in Tadcaster

EDWARD DALTON  Christening:  02 DEC 1832   Saint Patricks

ELIZABETH DALTON  Christening:  12 FEB 1831   Saint Patricks

1851 for 22 Giles Buildings Leeds

Edward Dalton 50 widower occ cooper b Gibralter - British subject
Edward 17 b Leeds
John 17 b Leeds
William 8 b Leeds

The entries for John & Edward are asterisked - possibly to indicate twins
HO107; Piece: 2319; Folio: 475; Page: 22

Ponti - were there any other children that you know of as I can't find the above family in 1841 to check

I think they are mistranscribed/mispelled as Daulton in 1841.

HO107/1343/25/12

1841
Clay Street Leeds

Edward Daulton 40 cooper (can't make out the squiggle in section where born Scotland,Ireland or foreign parts)
Mary 40 'I' (ie born Ireland)
Edward 8
John 8
Eliza 10
Michael 6
Margaret 15 flax mill
Mary 12 flax mill
Joseph 2
Francis 20 engine man
All others born in county)
Odd order of children  :-\

Just had another look at Edward's squiggle - It's not "I" like Mary's, it's not "S" so it must be "F", as we know he was born in Gibraltar.

What do you think Carole? Reckon Edward's father was a military man? I bet he was Irish ...  ;D
