Has anyone come across any Boon families?
« on: Wednesday 21 April 04 18:46 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the birth of my great grandfather John Boon. In the 1891 and 1901 census he gives his birthplace as London, no other information, and would have been born around 1860-1861. I know from his marriage certificate of 1886 that his father was also named John, was deceased and a coach painter by trade. The GRO has no record of his birth under the name John Boon with a father also named John so I really don't know how I am going to track him down.
I have been trying to find him for 9 months now so any information would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks....................Pam

Hi Pam
London 1861 census (RG9)
shows
Boon, John 41, in Pancras Tottenham Court ref 100/28
Boon John H 2mths Pancras Somers Town, ref 110/117
The only thing that worries me about this is the two reference numbers - if it were father and son would expect them to be on the same pages.
Found Ann Boon 41 100/28 probably wife of John and

Elizabeth 36, 110/117
Matilda, 12 110/117
William 41 110/117 probably parents of baby John.
Depends on when John was born if he was in the 1861 census or not so the John and Ann might be a better prospect.
Hope this helps,
Sue

Sue, Thanks for that information. I know that my John's father was also name John so the John and Ann are a possibility I will look into.
Does it give an occupation for John aged 41 on the census?
Many thanks................Pam

Hi Pam on the 1881 UK census CD there is a John Boon, born 1860 at Egham, Surrey (London area) in lodgings and a bricklayers labourer. There is also a John Boon age 49 retired builder living in south london.

contact me if you'd like the record.
