Martin / Gilmore Enniskillen
« on: Wednesday 11 February 09 09:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for any information regarding my Great grandfather Joseph Martin b Enniskillen abt 1877. I have no other details other than his marriage to a Mary Gilmore abt 1901/2. Mary was born in abt 1880 to Thomas and Jane Gilmore.  The Gilmore's were also from Enniskillen.

I have looked up Jane Gilmore on Emerald ancestors and she is there in the 1901 census but can't tell if it is her as it won't let you look at the original document (even with a subscription!!!)

Once married they moved to Liverpool where I have found them (including Jane) in the 1911 census.

Any help would be appreciated

Dave

Thanks Mary,

I know from the uk 1911 census that they had been married 9 years and family legend has it they met in liverpool and went back to Ireland to marry...but where in Ireland is anyones guess! I would have thought that as they both came from Enniskillen (again according to the UK census) that would be where they married.

I appreciate your time and effort

Dave

I have finally managed to trace the marriage to St Michaels in Enniskillen in April 1902 and it revealed that Joseph's father was James who was a farmer.

Any info on James would be much appreciated! I know its a long shot but accessing Irish records from Oz is very difficult!

Thanks

Dave

Dave,
The 1901 census for Ireland should be on-line in June 2010 as the 1911 currently is. You may find something there. www.census.nationalarchives.ie

Dave,
A couple of extra items. The IGI, part of www.familysearch.org gives a Joseph Martin born in Fermanagh to James Martin and Elizabeth Cox on 14 Sept 1873. Doing a parent search on the same site gives two sisters, Catherine born 13 Apr 1876 and Mary born 27 Feb 1879. The sisters are listed as being born in Cavancarragh which is a townland near Lisbellow just to the SE of Enniskillen.
It's tentative but worth keeping in mind.

I'll look forward to the 1901 coming online. I also found the IGI stuff but with so much of the records in Ireland missing it is difficult to guage how likely it is to be them.

Thanks for the help

Dave

Or you could search LDS site (www.familysearch.org) and find a Joseph Martin born 14 Sept.1873 Co. Fermanagh (parents James Martin & Elizabeth Cox).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
