Donnelly's of Dungloe.
« on: Wednesday 11 February 09 23:33 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any info on the Donnelly family of Dungloe.

My great great grandfather was Patrick Donnelly (b. 1846)

He had sisters called Margaret, Elizabeth, Mary and Kate.  Brothers Frank, John and William James.

Patrick and his father Daniel were butchers.
Patrick's mother was a Ellen or Nellie Molloy/Malloy/Mulloy.

Patrick married Anne Campbell in 1865 in Dungloe.

They had 10 children, including my great grandfather William (b. 1876)

Any help on any of these people would be fantastic.

I am struggling to find any info on them.
Dungloe/Co. Donegal - Donnelly, Sharkey and Campbell.
Lesmahagow/Lanarkshire - Kane and Mullen.
Windsor/Clewer/Dedworth - Slaughter.
Uxbridge/Acton/Letcombe/Windsor - Josey.
Whitchurch, Oxon - Hine.

Thank you Kingskerswell,

I've plundered family search already.

I've also raided the Donegal Geneaology Resource too.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of info on the web for Dungloe.
Dungloe/Co. Donegal - Donnelly, Sharkey and Campbell.
Lesmahagow/Lanarkshire - Kane and Mullen.
Windsor/Clewer/Dedworth - Slaughter.
Uxbridge/Acton/Letcombe/Windsor - Josey.

from Slater's Commercial Directory of 1870 - no Donnelly's listed for Dungloe but there is :

  Charles O'Donnell , Dungloe - Butcher

other O'Donnells in the area :

  James O'Donnell , Ardara - Blacksmith
Dudley O'Donnell, Ardara - Boot & Shoe Maker
John O'Donnell, Ardara - Boot & Shoe Maker
Hugh O'Donnell , Doogharry bridge - Grocer - also Spirit & Porter Dealer

In this edition Dungloe is included in the section for 'Glenties & Ardara'

for 1846 there is no Dungloe or Glenties section - these are the nearest matches I find :

James O'Donnell, Main st, Donegal Town - Black & Whitesmith (??)
Thomas Donnell, Quay st, Donegal Town - Spirit & Porter Dealer
Thomas O'Donnell, grocer and corn merchant, Dunkineely, Killybegs - Shopkeeper & Trader
