Rathfarnham Parish Marriage
« on: Sunday 15 February 09 00:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I've recently started to break down a brickwall  ;D regarding my g grandfather Percy Andrew Dunlop, born 'Dublin', who moved to Australia in his early 30's (c1904). After at least 10 years searching, finally found him on the new Irish BMD site marrying (someone other than my g grandmother  :o) in Rathfarnham in 1896. Have bought the certificate and confirmed he's mine.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the parish church for the Church of Ireland in Rathfarnham, and if their records for 1896 survive? Does anyone know if there is likely to be more information than the marriage cert in these records too?

Thank you
Adrianne

The following Catholic registers are available for Rathfarnham Parish at the NLI  :

Microfilm P.8972

Rathfarnham & Crumlin Marriages May 26, 1781 - Nov. 18, 1781
    Nov. 17, 1781 - Mar. 4, 1789
Rathfarnham Baptisms Jan. 1, 1777 - May 1781
Rathfarnham & Crumlin Baptisms May 1781 - Nov. 14, 1781
Rathfarnham Baptisms Nov. 18, 1781 - Dec. 1, 1788
(Baptisms and Marriages for 1788-1807 are missing.)

Microfilm P.8972
Rathfarnham (continued) Baptisms Sept. 18, 1807 - Jan. 15, 1832
Marriages Sept. 22, 1807 - Jan. 9, 1832
Baptisms Jan. 22, 1832 - Feb. 1, 1852
    Jan. 7, 1861 - Oct. 2, 1864
Marriages Jan. 23, 1832 - Jan. 8, 1852
    Nov. 19, 1862 - Nov. 3, 1864
Baptisms Jan. 1, 1852 - Feb. 7, 1857
Marriages Jan. 5, 1852 - Nov. 21, 1858
Baptisms Oct. 9, 1864 - Mar. 24, 1878
   Aug. 20, 1857 - Sept. 26, 1858
Marriages Nov. 12, 1864 - Mar. 4, 1878
Baptisms Mar. 31, 1878 - June 27, 1917
Marriages Feb. 12, 1878 - July 24, 1933

I would not usually expect parish registers to contain any more information than the civil register (many that I've seen include quite a bit less detail).

p.s. what was Percy Dunlop's fathers name ?  I have located a couple of Dunlop entries close to Rathfarnham in an 1894 trade directory.

Hi,

Yes the records for Rathfarnham C-o-I Church are available for:-
Births 1873-onwards
Marriages 1845-onwards
Deaths 1873

It is quite likely the marriage record will show the fathers names for both bride and groom.  It should also show occupations.

There were Dunlops living close to Rathfarnham during the early 1900s - could these be parents/siblings to your Percy?

Cheers

Hi,

Thankyou LH and Shane for your replies :)

Percy's address at marriage is listed as Rathmaines, occupation clerk. His father's name was Andrew, occupation journalist. I've found his father in the 1911 census living in the parish of Donnybrook. Male siblings I now know of are Geoffrey (from census) and possibly Robert (witness at marriage). Any further info would be greatly appreciated  ;D

Thanks

Hi there - I know this post is from several years ago but I wondered how you followed up on it. It looks like Percy Andrew Dunlop was the son of my great great aunt and uncle (Andrew Dunlop and Isabella Bond).  Lots more information available if you are looking for anything more.

There's an Andrew Dunlop born in Dublin in 1868. His parents Andrew Dunlop (Sub Editor) and Isabella nee Bond. Maybe he later changed his name to Percy Andrew ???  Parents living at 120 Leinster Road, Rathmines.

Hi again - I don't think there is any doubt about the connection looking at the surnames of interest in your profile.  My Dad was a Bond and did a lot of trawling through records in Dubline/Coleraine/Derry etc before so much became available online.  After all this time you've probably found everything that we have on the Bonds, Entiwstles etc but happy to share anything I have.
