Which Battallion in the Rifle Brigade + S.W.B
« on: Sunday 15 February 09 00:48 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I found my G Grandfather Charles Arthur Prince, Silver War Badge by accident yesterday in the loft. He must of given it to my late father. I am really happy. His S.W.B number is 71976.

From his medal card he was Private S/10957 Rifle Brigade.  He entered the theatre of war in France on the 8th Dec 1915.

He enlisted 25th May 1915 and was wounded then discharged 10th Oct 1916.

My question is how can i find out which Batallion of the Rifle Brigade he was in and where and how he was wounded.

Thank you in advance
Pilgarlic

Is it not on the MIC?

A couple of the lads on here have some access to numbers they might tip up soon...
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Thanks for that list.  I think !

A lot of Battallions there etc.

This is my 1st enquiry into finding his Battallion so any pointers such as Winchester are appreciated.

I know from his S.W.B. Roll that Winchester is stamped at the bottom of the page. I have no idea if that is a lead though. I am a novice when it comes to the Armed Forces. Am enjoying learning though !

Does the SWB Roll  have his battalion on it?

It will most definately be on the actual Rolls at Kew.
An method of guestimating battalions without having to visit is find a casualty with very similar number either through Soldier Died In Great War and CWGC their records usually state battalions

I dont think it has his Brigade on the S.W.B Roll.

I photo copied his S.W.B Roll at Kew.

Am i allowed to put it up on here ?

I thought you'd be along at some point Ady...You seem to have all the Regt number bits tied up!
