Hi,
I have a problem with finding someone in any census. His name was Arthur Mordaunt Wilson and he was baptised 11.2.1862 at All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland. His parents were Arthur Busby (or Bushby or Burkly) Duthoit Wilson and Mary Frances Wilson nee Mordaunt. His father was a Hat Manufacturer as was his grandfather Thomas Wilson. His mother's father, Eldred Mordaunt, was a Landed Proprietor. He had two older sisters, Emmeline Duthoit Wilson and Mary Beatrice Wilson.
Both his parents died in 1868 leaving him an orphan aged 6. I have found a possible sighting of his sister Emmeline in the 1871 census at a boarding school on the Isle of Man, but no sign of Arthur or Mary. In 1881 I have found Mary living with her grandmother Margaret Mordaunt (Eldred's widow) in Liverpool but again no sign of Arthur.
In 1887 he married one of my ancestors Charlotte Jessie Jago at the registry office in Pancras, Middlesex. He gives his father as Arthur Wilson (deceased) occupation Hatter, his age as 24 years and under rank or profession states 'of independent means'. Which in itself didn't surprise me as his family must have been wealthy. Again I was unable to find him in the 1891 census (or Charlotte). I did find Charlotte Wilson in the 1901 census living in Hackney. She is down as married and has a 3 year old child Charles Wilson with her but again no sign of Arthur. I am pretty sure this is the right Charlotte J. Wilson as her mother Elizabeth Jago is living at the same address. (All three of them are down as boarders.) I have also checked the 1911 census for Arthur with no success.
So, sorry this has turned out so long, can anyone help with finding Arthur Mordaunt Wilson in any of the censuses!
Thank you for your trouble.
Cheers
Magrat
