Help with a Will please
« on: Monday 16 February 09 09:20 GMT (UK) »
This is part if a will for Edward Bright, probated 1575.

Could SKS please tell me if this gentleman's will mentions land/estates etc in Essex? If so, what was the place called  ???

I really should stop downloading wills as I always have problems with them but I just can't resist finding just another tiny snippet of information about an ancestor  ::)

Your help would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Di

Oh brilliant - thank you so much Richard.

I'll now check each place and try and see why he left money to them or if he lived there at some stage.

The big win with this will was that he actually mentions his wife by name (Mabell). I expected her name to remain as "unknown" forever.

Really appreciate your help

Thank you  :-*

Di

Looking at it, South Weald, Brentwood and Brook Street were all part of the parish of South Weald - which explains why he refers to this parish in the singular.  He's just giving a long name for the parish, probably indicating that the villages of Brentwood and Brook Street were already larger than the mother village of South Weald.

I just found them all on a map. Looks like the ideal position for a country estate - close proximity to London yet still in the country.

I probably wont find Parish Records going back to this time but I'll check the archives as well.

Many thanks
