Haddington Militia in Dunbar

Wondering if anyone knows of a website that may contain information and photos of men that were involved with the Haddington Milita.

My great great grandfather David Colman LEES was an officer in the Haddington Militia while living in Dunbar 1880 - 1900.

Hi Jamie, have you thought of emailing a Library close to Haddington and asking if they have a Local Studies Section and can they help?

I've found the librarians very helpful indeed about this sort of request- it's right up their alley.

Here's a link to the East Lothian local studies section. I've used them many times before and they've always been helpful. However, they do get a high amount of queries so it does take a small while to get a reply.

I am curious about this post as my family has a small connection with a Lees family in Dunbar. Did your ancestors stay there or in the area?

What is your connection to the LEES in the area?

Further to talking about info on the Militia, in the napoleonic era the local newpaper in WRY of yorkshire carried almost daily account of where they were and what was happening..
maybe you can ask the library if that occurred in the time you are searching.
just a thought.

My great-uncle married a Dunbar girl by the name of Lees. This was a lot later than your family's time in Dunbar though, so possibly not a connection. I haven't researched her line so I'm not too sure where the name comes from.

Joanna, My Eliz. Ann JAGGER b 1854 in Siuthowrma was the dau. of John & Sarah Jagger- her sister was Lillian. Eliz. Ann Married Jonas HARGREAVES  and they lived in Southowram.  Any connection?
