Floozy's Scavenger Hunt...Everyone Welcome To Join In
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 10:29 GMT (UK) »

G'day and welcome to Floozy's Scavenger Hunt.     After the last few weeks of very difficult Hunts, I think you'll find this one a bit easier...........or at least I hope so.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Barbara

                                    ****************************

Today I'm looking for more information in Relation to Emma Rogers (nee  Cook/e)
I am more interested in the Ancestors not the descendants and trying to link this family up.

But would also like to know if Emma had a child in England or on Board the ship they came out on.
According to my mother she did and it is on her death cert. Which she has in a box somewhere at my sisters place 2000klm away and I don't have access to it yet.

As Emma and Husband William Rogers (from Wales) came to Australia. I have already got oodles of info. Also Williams nephew is a VC Holder of the bore war.

Grandparent of Emma Cook/e the only info I have is from
thepeerage.com
Rev Thomas Cook/Cooke

Her Aunt  her fathers sister.

Elizabeth Cook/Cooke(information found so far born in Ireland??cant remember where I found that) who married Sir Henry John Brownrigg of the Royal Irish Constabulary.
Born: 1805??? a mention in something I found said born in Ireland??  Would like to find birth.
I have the 1871 census I have them living in London
I have her death Jan 23 1880 but no record could be  but not sure.Name:  Elizabeth Brownrigg
Birth:  abt 1805
Death:  Mar 1880 - Elham, Kent

Sunnyside House, Folkestone, ENG  reference in a Photocopy I got from overseas (could have been from Jim Herlkys book)

This is what I have found so far Parents
IGI extracted Marriage also found Pallots  on Ancestry

Richard Cook (Born Circa 1798)
Married
Susan Gower ( Born Circa 1790-1800)
9 Nov 1817 Christ Church Greyfriars Newgate, London, Eng

I found something somewhere where it also states that Elizabeth Cook/e is the 4th child so their maybe more siblings.

Just one more thing here  ship details Emma and her Husband came out on

ROGERS John   Tasman 1848 2144 4/4816 103

ROGERS William and Emma   Tasman 1848 2144 4/4816 100

John is Williams brother, their was no mention of the child so I'm not sure if the baby was born on board/died at sea/or born in London/Wales

Can not find Emma on 1841 census or her parents.

William and John are from Wales  and as her birth suggests so was she.

The story of her Aunt was passed down the family.

I have even made contact with her Aunts GGG Grandson hows that for good hunting lol.

As far as I know this is correct..

on Emmas death cert  it states Richard and Susannah/etc variations maybe

are the parents.   Emma's Husband  William Rogers  and her brother inlaw  are the children of James Rogers and Jane Isbester from Wales.

I am thinking Emma grew up in Wales.

My Mum, even though  she gets her facts muddled told me that  Richard Emma's father was a customs officer.

Their is a gap of 10 years from marriage to birth too.??

I also suspect that Richards sister was not born in Ireland either..

the brownrigg family also originated from ENgland as well originally.

Yes they do seem over the place but its not suprising either
so is the Brownrigg family. LOL

Do the records you hold for Emma give her mothers maiden name as Gower ?

of course Richard was bound to travel around wherever his father was placed as minister

what do we know of Susannah Gower? thats he was of child bearing age in 1827

do they survive into the census? when did they emigrate?

Susan(nah) Gower bp. 01Sept 1798 Tunbridge Wells d/o Thomas & Mary

Kent records are online
(looking for te link butnot finding  ::) )

Thomas Cooke may not show on the online Lambeth Palace Database so it may be worth contacting them to look up for you.
they do hold records of all Anglician Clergymen from the 1500's
