Thank you all for this marvellous additional information. I have been stuck on the New Zealand connection for a while and now it is all falling into place. I have spent a happy hour searching websites and am looking forward to adding additional members to my tree.

Just to add to the debate on the 1893 electoral roll. I had found Elizabeth Frankham in the 1891 English census staying with her sister Jane Marsh in Wellington, Somerset, England. it is possible others of her family were also in the UK - I will have alook. One of the newspaper references showed a Frankham returning to NZ in May 1893 so I will check to see if Ican find a passenger list to match this. If they were in the UK this long they would have missed being on the roll.

Elizabeth and Deborah were born in Wellington, Somerset. The family story was that family had gone to Wellington, New Zealand. I attach a photo of their father William Bishop who died in 1878.

Hi Liz

WOW !   Mr. William BISHOP was a handsome fellow.    :)

Just had a look at "ancestorsonboard" for your people returning to New Zealand.   Couldn't see anybody really who fitted the bill ?

But travelling to Australia is >

FRANKHAM, J. (Male) - born 1869
London to Adelaide, Australia in 1893     ??

[Also, London to Adelaide in 1890 is a Geo. FRANKHAM (born 1873)  ... maybe related to the J. Frankham above ??]

I suppose two years was a bit of a long visit! Your passenger list info is brilliant - I wish we had equivalent to pick up this end. However, there is some info on Ancestry and FIndmy past site which I shall look at when I next sort access.

Regarding the J Frankham - when I was going through the Frankham burials I found a couple of names I could not account for -  one of them was a JOhn Frankhamborn about 1861 so it could be him. I will check Frankham family in England for John and George

That's put paid to any housework today anyway!

Hi again Liz

Pretty sure there is an equivalent list - "passengers arriving in the UK"  ... and that someone else on here will be able to give you the web link for it.

After all the dust only settles again. As long as I shut the laptop and hide all my bits of paper with family tree notes before my other half comes home!

On the other hand, when I mentioned it last night, he reminded me how he wants to take me to New Zealand - he went for walking holiday ages ago and is longing to go back. So maybe I should encourage this so I can visit some family sites.

Meanwhile I have found Walter's family in Keynsham SOmerset - and a probable brother John with a son John who could be the other burial/passenger

Meant to say the other newspaper links were good - one descendent died in World War !, one in BOer War, and Charles Frankham's wood mill being burnt to the ground!

I have found more children for Elizabeth and children for Deborah on bdm historical records search.

Elizabeth had three further sons born in New Zealand. They were
Clement Frankham born 1876
Harold Frankham born 1878
John Frankham born 1881
There is a gap of 6 years after her last English born child in 1870 but this period included the voyage to New Zealand.
This establishes Trooper Harold Frankham (see earlier posts) who died after the Boer War as her son.
I have found a marriage for CLement to Ida Sankey in 1903

Deborah had four children
Norman Gribble born 1885
Charles born 1882
DOrothea born 1889
Frank born 1890
I am trying to establish whether her husband Charles Gribble was born in New Zealand or travelled out at a similar time to Deborah. I have found an earlier family living there. Also references to Charles Gribble, a teacher, but not sure if this is the same one.
To me this is a less common name than Frankham and should be easier to follow up, but it seems the other way round in the New Zealand Archives.

It is possibly worth mentioning that Elizabeth and Deborah's family were BAptists. At least three of their siblings were church leaders and preachers. SO it is possible that these families were active in the early Baptist Church in New Zealand. Has anyone any advice on how I might check this out.

Thanks for the help so far. I am really enjoying following these tow families.
