Joseph Burton bap 1.7.1792 Stanground
« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 17:24 GMT (UK) »
Joseph Burton was born and bapt at Stanground in 1792. He married Mary Baumber at Pinchbeck, Lincs 15 May 1815. They had 3 known children Thomas b 1815, Mary b1818, and Benjamin b1821. Were there any other children. Thomas was my great grandfather, but I have no knowledge whatsoever of the others. Can anyone help please?

So far as I have established, they were all baptised at Pinchbeck, Lincs.

If the family remained in Lincs, which presumably you can establish from burials/deaths and censuses, you'd probably stand more chance of success by posting on the Lincs board

Point taken, but I am also interested in Joseph's earlier family if known. Can you help there please?

As you asked for his children and as you have his baptism I assumed you must have had his parents names. There's no Burton marriage in Stanground 1756-1837, so it's vital that you give details of his parents

There's only one Burton burial in Stanground 1708-1900 - William on 21 Jan 1800, but no age is given, so you need to check the parish register to see if there is any more detail

Stanground parish register isn't available as a transcript from Hunts FHS, but it has been filmed by the LDS so is available to order and view at your nearest LDS Family History Centre

His parents may be John Burton and Mary Cowham who married at Spalding in 1775. They may have been a Lincolnshire family who happened to be at Stanground when Joseph was born, but I am not certain about this. I am really struggling on this one.

The first step would seem to be to confirm the baptism entry at Stanground, and to see if there are any other Burtons baptised there

In 1851 the following Burtons also gave their birthplace as Stanground
James 60 living in Whittlesey Cambs, a farmer of 142 acres
Pearce 62 living at Whaplode, Lincs, a labourer (his wife Elizabeth 53 was from Pinchbeck)

I am aware of a Percy Burton b 1789, but had no idea where; this looks like a very likely candidate thanks.
